You always wondered where my love of cowboys came from,
it must have come from the times we watched tv cowboy shows together.
You always wondered where my free spirit came from,
it must have been from the lessons in life you gave me.
You always wondered why I married at dark-haired, brown-eyed man,
it must have been because he looked like you.
You always wondered where my sense of fairness and play came from,
it must have been from what I saw in you.
You always wondered why I could cry and not feel ashamed for doing so,
it must have been from seeing you do the same.
You always wondered how I could fall and have the strength to stand up again,
it must have been because I saw you do it.
You always wondered why I would seek your advice instead of someone else,
it must have been because I respected you.
You always wondered why I sought your hugs whenever we met,
it must have been because I knew you loved me.
I miss those hugs, the sound of your voice and your smile,
it must be because I loved you.
Love you, miss you, Dad.
